My Comments on other blogs

DOMESTIC ABUSE-http://www.donnie22.blogspot.com

I agree with the comments you are making here as men, women and especially children should not be victims of domestic abuse. However, I disagree with the point about male cases being dismissed as there are several cases of men being victims of domestic abuse by women. I totally agree with the fact that people are too scared to come forward as in many cases it is their partner who is abusing them and they do not want thier partner to get into trouble.

SMOKING-http://www.curly-sue7.blogspot.com

I agree with everything you say about smoking as it is a bad thing to promote the attractiveness of it through films and famous celebritys. The examples you gave of people in films who smoke are all true as Bruce Willis in Die Hard is very rarely seen without his Zippo lighter and a fag hanging out his mouth.

Lying with Integrity

I believe that Lying is bad in some situations i.e. lying for your own benefit e.g. lying to someone saying you have no money when really you do. However; there are some situations where I think lying is acceptable i.e. lying to save someones life. This kind of lie where you are lying to protect others is acceptable to me as you are not doing it for your benefit but for someone elses. The other time that lying is acceptable is when it is a small white lie i.e. lying about your age saying you are younger than you really are.

I think that every human being has the ability to lie and has lied more than once in their lives. Sometimes I think lying can be acceptable. However; I don't think that always telling the truth is the best cause as in some situations for example lying to your children about your divorce is acceptable as you are protecting the welfare of your children.

Bad Cinema

I was suprised after watching the film "Kids" in the lighthouse how bad cinema can actually be. From the film I concluded that it is wrong to show scenes of rape or sex as it is harmful to the viewer as they might find it upsetting. However; the film "Kids" did have some positives like the fact that there is a feeling of being together as no one is seen being isolated from the group of teenagers. Also the teenagers get a feeling of belonging together when they can't get it anywhere else. However; looking at the bigger picture cinema is not as bad as first thought as it is only a minority of films that contain graphic scenes. The only good thing about bad cinema and the film "Kids" is that it is given a certificate of 18 or in the case of "Kids" NC-17.

Personally, I think that as long as films like "Kids" are given certificates of 18 then people who want to see it can see it. However; I am not totally against the film "Kids" as I did feel sorry for the character who got aids from having sex once when the girl who had sex more than once did not get it. I think this good to show as it shows teenagers who want to have sex the difficulties that they could get into doing it. Also the film is a good indicator to parents as to what their children might get up to if they are left to their own vices.

Body Piercing and Tattoos

I shocked in last weeks lecture to find out that there are so many ways of changing your body through piercing and tattoos. I think that it is acceptable to have piercings and tattoos as it is your own choice, however; it only becomes unacceptable to me when someone has too much piercings or tattoos. I also think it is wrong that people advertise body modification as something everyone must do to look good, as I feel everyone is perfect the way they are. I agree with views of religion and society when they argue that body modifacation is deviant as you should keep your body the way God made it and tattoos and piercings are associated with bad subcultures i.e. criminals.

Being Too Religious

I think that there is times in society when people are too religious i.e. speaking from the bible in public etc. In society if do something like this you are percieved as devient as you are violating a persons "comfort zone", as it makes them feel uncomfortable. I also think that it also secularises people as if you are praying say at the beginning of the lecture then you are focusing mainly on Christianity and not any other religions as there might be people there who might not be catholic, church of England, methodist etc . However; for me I don't think it is devient to express your beliefs as you are telling people this is what I believe and I am happy believing this.

Bandits and Outlaws

I was interested in last weeks lecture to hear that outlaws like Robin Hood were not always the good guys but were bad as well. I think that bandits like Bonnie and Clyde or "Pretty Boy" Floyd were bad guys as they murdered people, however; Robin Hood is not as he stole from the rich to give to the poor. I think that Robin Hood did not steal for his own benefit i.e. to be famous like Jesse James, but rather he did it for the poor people of his village. The only problem with the Robin Hood case is that it is debatable whether he actually exists or not. So this defeats the point that some bandits could be good as those that we know about and have historical knowledge on, are all bad as they commited crime for their own benefit. So all bandits and outlaws must be bad.

Infedelity is wrong

In last weeks lecture I was suprised to hear how many people have cheated on their partner. I think it is wrong to cheat on your partner as you have made a commitiment to stay with one person and you are breaking this commitment by going with someone else. However, I think people cheat on their partner for a number of reasons including being attracted to someone else or they do it to be rebellious. I think that cheating on your partner is a vicious circle as you start by cheating and then lie to your partner or cheat on the person you have cheated on with someone else. The only good thing about cheating is that in most cases the partner finds out, so they get what they deserve. A good example of this is "Friends" when Ross cheats on Rachel with someone else.

Masterbation

I was suprised in last weeks lecture to see how horrific the methods of preventing masterbation were in victorian times. I can see where they are coming from though, as todays society still has problems with it as it is something you should not do. I don't have an opinion on the issue as it is up to the person themselves whether or not to do it. However; I do think that the methods used in victorian times were a bit too far. For me i think that the problems with masterbation will never be solved as it is a debateable subject to talk about.

Stealing is wrong

After watching the episode of The Family Guy last week, it really made me think how wrong it is to steal. Shoplifting has always been a bad thing to me as it breaking the law. However; i don't think that it is a major issue as you are not hurting anyone but you are disrupting someones business by losing them money. I think people shoplift for a number of reasons like they do not have enough money to buy something and they might do it like the wife in the film for excitement and just want to be rebellious. There are also people who have the money to buy things but still shoplift. I think these people make shoplifting a bad thing for me as they do it knowing that they have the money and the chance to get away with it.

Smoking is wrong

I was suprised in last weeks lecture to see that so many people were smokers or ex-smokers. I hate smoking as every time i walk past the bus stop i can't stand the smell of the smoke from other peoples cigarettes. I can't see why people smoke knowing the dangers they face every time they light up a innocent cigarette i.e. lung cancer, emphsema etc. I think the problem is that films on television promote the coolness of smoking a cigarette. I think they should also show the dangers as well as the coolness (which it isn't). The reason i don't smoke is that i know the dangers and i hate the smell of them. Cigarettes are always expensive too so you are constantly without any money to spend.
